澳门葡京游戏app accommodates 3,600 students at 13 halls of residence across London. These halls are a mix of 澳门葡京游戏app-run halls and partnership halls (private landlords).
Following the Grenfell Tower fire in June, fire safety audits were carried out at every hall and academic building in the 澳门葡京游戏app portfolio. All buildings have been deemed safe to occupy.
In addition, all halls and academic buildings at 澳门葡京游戏app have multiple escape routes, smoke and heat detectors and fire alarms that are tested weekly, with evacuation tests at least twice a year.
Questions and answers
Do you have sprinkler systems in your buildings?
None of our halls has a sprinkler system other than one of the blocks at the Costume Store, which is the tallest hall with 17 floors. However, all 13 of our halls have multiple escape routes, smoke detectors and fire alarms that are tested weekly, with evacuation tests at least twice yearly. Two of our existing academic buildings have sprinkler systems, which will be installed in our new developments at Elephant & Castle and Stratford.
Do you house students in tower blocks?
Two of our halls of residence are taller buildings, meaning that under 5% of the beds provided by 澳门葡京游戏app are in rooms above 10 floors high. This is in The Costume Store and Furzedown Student Village. Block A at The Costume Store has sprinklers.
Have you tested the cladding on your buildings to make sure it is fire proof?
None of our halls has secondary over-cladding of the type applied to Grenfell Tower. We have undertaken an audit to ensure that we do not have any polyethylene panels clad in aluminium. We consider the flammability of our facades to be low risk and have received confirmation of the same from our partnership halls (private landlords).
