August 1, 2008

August is upon us and the Torp schedule is getting busier all the time.  If you're a venue or individual thinking about having us perform between now and the end of the year, please let us know right away because weekend dates are filling up rapidly.  We're only a phone call or email away!

July brought the Torps to the House of Blues Kitchen (Lake Buena Vista) twice, Harry’s Cigar’s and the Starlight Lounge (Oviedo), the Beach Shack (Cocoa Beach) and our newest home for the blues; Bourbon Street (The Villages).  The HOB is always fun for us as it's a great room and they always treat us right.  At Harry's...COLD BEER...we may have been very close to setting an all time record, although the total garbage bag count may have been slightly mis-calibrated.  Make sure to check with Harry for his thoughts on this.  The Beach Shack was about as hot as it gets temperature wise and I'm sure the Torps sweated out every toxin we ever absorbed over the last year or so!  Ha!  Bourbon Street and its steadily growing crowd were as enthusiastic as ever.  The folks at the Villages know how to party and have a good time doing it!  If you're ever in the area of Lady Lake or Leesburg, make sure to come check it out.

This Friday the Torps make a triumphant return to the fine City of Eustis for thier First Friday street event and we'll be kicking things off at 6PM at the center stage. Saturday brings the Torps to Wolfy’s in Sanford starting at 8PM and we have a lot of special friends expected to show up that just happen to be in town.  It’s looking like our monthly blues night at Wolfy’s is starting to draw quite a diverse crowd and the Sanford community seems to be spreading the Torptitude amongst themselves quite nicely.

Following our first corporate gig on the 6th, the Torps are heading back to Harry’s Cigar’s and the Starlight Lounge (8/9) and are bringing yet another special addition to the best parking lot blues party east of Orlando.  You'll have to be there to see what's new...just remember to repeat after me...COLD BEER, NO RAIN...repeat.  Tell Harry and his crew the Torps sent you.

Then it's back to the Beach Shack (8/10 - 2PM) for a lovely Sunday afternoon on the deck.  It's been a long time since we did this gig and it's one of our favorites.  Come relax and recover from your weekend activities and still be home and in bed at a reasonable time.

Bourbon Street (8/15) and make sure to click on the link for a coupon that’s good for a 20% discount on all entrees.

Make sure to mark August 16th on your calendars...the first in what's hoping to be a regular concert series at McWell's. The Back Room Blues Concert series presents two Florida IBC winners; The Smokin' Torpedoes & Nouveaux Honkies starting at 8PM.  Tickets are $10 and the music will go till midnight.  We had a chance to meet and hear these guys while in Memphis last year and it's looking like some great live blues FUN heading our way.

Then we're back to the Beach Shack (8/23) and Bourbon Street (8/29) to finish the month off with a blues bang!

Don't forget to vote for the Torps at WESH's A-List, best local band contest.  We've slipped out of the top 5 and only a few more votes will put us back in the running...come on all you live blues enthusiasts, let's put a local blues band on top!

Also, fresh off the presses.  It looks like the Orange Blossom Blues Society has tentatively set a date for this year’s International Blues Competition for October 25th.  No other info available yet, but the Torps new line up is setting our sites on competing once again in hopes of going to Memphis and trying our best to represent Central Florida.

Remember all this and a lot more info can be found throughout our website anytime.  Torp on!
